The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands in the late 1800's. The Golden was developed by Lord Tweedmouth, who aimed to create a superb retriever suited for the Scottish climate. He bred his orignial Yellow Lab with a Water Spaniel (which is now extinct). Later with Irish Setters, Bloodhounds thrown into the mix we have the Goldens of today.
